Summer Music for Flute and Piano

Summer Music for Flute and Piano

By Bennet Richard Rodney

R. Bennet: Summer Music for Flute and Piano was written in 1982. As Bennet himself described this work "I composed this piece as a way of bridging the gap between starting to learn an instrument and "real music". Since it consists of three movements, this piece has the "feeling of sonata".

Bennet Richard Rodney

Sir Richard Rodney Bennett (1936-2012) was an English composer and jazz pianist who composed over 250 works, including 50 scores for film and television (earning three Academy Awards nominations). His musical style, described as dramatico-abstract, was greatly influenced by Pierre Boulez with which he studied in Paris.

Bennet regularly performed as jazz pianist and expressed himself as a visual artist, creating various collages which he exhibited several times. His musical legacy very well reflects Bennett’s' eclectic taste: three symphonies, six operas, jazz ballet, and numerous concertos for various instruments (including marimba).
