Caplet André

André Caplet (1878-1925) was a French composer and conductor, mostly known for his orchestrations of works by Claude Debussy.
Born on a sailing boat near the coast of Le Havre, he soon showed original musical talent that led him to win the Prix de Rome in 1901 and become friends with Debussy.
From 1910 to 1914 he worked as a conductor at the Boston Opera. During WWI military service he was gassed and obtained pleuritis that severely damaged his health. Capelet was original composer who especially focused on compositions combining voice with various instruments. Among them there are two compositions for Voice and Flute: Corbeille de fruits (1924), and Écoute mon Coeur (1924)
