"Life Is Not Enough"
"Life Is Not Enough" (Leben ist nicht genug) for flute solo was written in January 2024.
"The reason for this was my participation in the 2024 Aeolus Competition, where I won the special prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary work. It actually premiered at the 2024 Tampere Flute Fest, where I also performed another piece of mine, "Schlaflos."
"Throughout our lives, we humans are constantly driven by the search for something we can probably never achieve, be it absolute happiness or complete contentment. We want perfection. In the end, we usually realize that it's often the little things we take for granted that bring us happiness and contentment, and that we should rather appreciate the moment.
The title of my composition for flute solo, "Life Is Not Enough," is symbolic of this. It's based on a novel of Hans Christian Andersen.
The butterfly spends a whole summer searching for the right woman, but can't decide, as the longing for more is always in the background. He longs for the perfect partner.
In the autumn, he lives trapped in a room, longing for the happiness of freedom that he previously didn't appreciate—unfortunately, too late: "Life is not enough; you must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower," is his final realization shortly before he lands in a display case. Although it is certainly a tragic story, a certain irony
behind it all should not be neglected."
