Trois Pieces pour Piano et Flute

Trois Pieces pour Piano et Flute

By Harsányi Tibor

Tibor Harsányi: Trois Pieces pour Piano et Flute was written in 1924 right after he settled in Paris and is his only composition for flute. It was published and premiered only in 1930. The suite consists of three movements: Lento – Scherzo – Lento. The first movement has A Hungarian flavour, especially in its iambic rhythm. Scherzo is a rash, virtuosic intermezzo and the second Lento has overall oriental color.

Harsányi Tibor

Tibor Harsányi (1898 – 1954) was a Hungarian pianist and composer. After his studies with Zoltán Kodály at the Budapest Conservatory he was actively touring as a pianist throughout Europe until he settled in Paris in 1923. Additionally to his pianist career, he was a founding member of the Société Triton, an organization that was actively promoting contemporary music concerts. Together with Marcel Mihalovici and Bohuslav Martinů he was a member of the Group de Quatre (with the Swiss composer Conrad Beck). He is mostly known for his piano compositions.
