Flautianna, Concerto for Flute and Strings, Op. 23
Ondřej Kukal: Flautianna, Concerto for Flute and Strings, Op. 23, written in 2007 and dedicated to Flautianna, Concerto for Flute and Strings, Op. 23.
The Concerto was premiered on 10 December 2009 in Hradec Králové (Czech Republic) with Robert Stallman as soloist and Kukal conducting the Hradec Králové Philharmonic orchestra.
Kukal wrote Flautianna as part of a playful series of concertante works with instrument-titled names (Clarinettino, Fagotissimo, Oboinna, Contrabassiana, etc.).
Stylistically, Flautianna is a lyrical, modern-tonal Concerto with clear forms, luminous string textures, and long, vocal flute lines.
