L. Liebermann: Sonata for Flute and Piano (Op. 23) was written in 1987 on comission by Spoleto Festival and dedicated to flutist Paula Robinson who premiered it at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina in 1988 with pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

Liebermann Lowell

Lowell Liebermann (1961) is an American composer, pianist and conductor who has written over 130 works in all genres. Among his most popular works: Sonata for Flute and Piano (1987) and the Concerto for Flute and Orchestra (1992). Graduate of Julliard School he was commissioned to compose opera "Miss Lonelyhearts" (2006) as part of school's centennial festivities. His musical style is a combination of tonal, polytonal and unconventional harmonies.
Liebermann currently is a faculty member of Mannes School of Music in New York.
