Persichetti Vincent

Vincent Persichetti (1915-1987) was an American composer. Born in Philadelphia, he early developed his musical talent by playing piano, organ, double bass and tuba at early age, complemented by composition studies. At the age of 16 he was appointed as organist and choir director at the Arch Street Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia.

In 1941 he was appointed the head of theory and composition departments at the Philadelphia Conservatory, right after receiving Doctor of Music diploma there. In 1947 he joined the faculty of Juilliard School of Music and became a chairman of composition department in 1963.
His compositional style has been described as eclectic. Among his most noteworthy compositions: 25 Parables and 15 Serenades for various instruments, over 100 works for orchestra, works for organ, and three collections of songs.
