Introduction and Variations for flute and piano (D 802)

F. Schubert: "Introduction and variations" for flute and piano (D 802) was written in 1824, most likely for flautist virtuoso Ferdinand Bogner, and first published only in 1850 (Op 160), after Schubert's death. The Introduction and seven variations on "Trockne Blumen" (Dry Flowers) theme from his song cycle "Die Schöne Müllerin" (The Fair Maid of  the Mill) is the only original flute composition written for flute by Schubert. This is a story of young heartbroken miller who daydreams about his beloved Maiden who would visit his grave (after he would drown himself in a brook) and thought "He was true to me!" as he would be buried with now-withered flowers she once gave him.
