R. Woolf: "Righteous Babe" for flute and piano was written in 2001 and dedicated to flutist Tara Helen O'Connor.
"The piece was written for the fantastic flutist Tara Helen O'Connor. It's short and showy, and chiefly concerned with avoiding the flowery and dainty side of the flute. She is performing it on this recording, with Margaret Kampmeier on piano. I stole the title from singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco. The phrase reminds me of Tara's heroic musical personality… and her human personality as well! The piece reflects my early playing of rock, blues, and blues rock, as well as boogie woogie."
