Alvarez, Roberto

Roberto Álvarez is a versatile Spanish flutist and piccoloist who has served as the Principal Piccolo of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) since July 2007.
Born in Asturias, on the northern coast of Spain, he studied with Myra and Peter Pearse at the Conservatory of Music in his hometown. He then continued his advanced studies at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, UK.
Beyond classical, he is proficient in diverse genres including folk (Asturian Celtic), jazz, and rock.
Before joining the SSO, he performed with ensembles such as the Asturias Symphony Orchestra, Oviedo Filarmonía, and the Malaysian Philharmonic.
