Ancillotti, Mario

Ancillotti, Mario

Mario Ancillotti is a distinguished Italian flutist, conductor, and educator.
Born in Italy, Ancillotti studied at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence. He continued his studies in Paris with the legendary French flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal and the influential English flutist James Galway. The influence of Rampal's lyrical, vocal approach to the instrument is evident in Ancillotti’s playing style.
He served in Rome with Severino Gazzelloni as first flute of the RAI Rome Symphony Orchestra and then of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome.
Ancillotti has performed internationally as a soloist with major orchestras and as a chamber musician in many of the world's most prestigious concert halls.
He has taught for twenty years at the Fiesole School of Music and for a longer period at the University School of Music in Lugano.
He is the director of the ensemble Nuovo Contrappunto with which he has made a number of recordings dedicated to the works of Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Manuel de Falla as director and soloist.
