Remarkable flutists
Arife Gülşen Tatu is the most renown Turkish flutist. Born in Izmir, she initially studied at the Izmir State Conservatory. In 1972 she received DAAD scholarship and went to Germany to study with Matthias Rütters in Essen. Later she studied with Aurèle Nicolet at the Freiburg Music College, becoming his assistant.
Arife Gülşen Tatu is a laureate of six international competitions, including Prague (1977) and Kobe (1985). As a soloist she has performed in Europe, USA, Japan, South Korea, Turkey etc. She also served as a solo flutist in the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra until she was appointed to a soloist position in the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra in 1986. The same year she was appointed as Professor to Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen, where she taught for many years.
As a guest professor she has given been invited to Sacramento University in California, at Cardiff Music Academy in England and Trömsö Music Academy in Norway. She currently continues her teaching as Artist in Residence at Istanbul Maltepe University Conservatory in Turkey. She has released many CD albums from which the most notable are W.A.Mozart’s flute concertos with the Salzburg Mozart Soloists and the Hungarian State Orchestra.
