Bernold, Philippe

Philippe Bernold is a French flutist and conductor.
He studied music in Colmar and at the Paris Conservatory. At the age of 23 he was appointed First flute of the National Opera Orchestra of Lyon.
In 1987 he won First Prize in the Jean-Pierre Rampal International Competition in Paris which led him to many solo appearances and collaborations with such great orchestras and conductors like J.E. Gardiner, L. Maazel, K. Nagano etc. He is a founder and conductor of Les Virtuoses de l’Opéra de Lyon ensemble. Additionally he has appeared as a guest conductor with many prominent European orchestras. Philippe Bernold has made over twenty noteworthy recordings for Mundi and EMI labels and has won the “Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros” award in 1989.
Currently Philippe Bernold is Professor of Chamber Music and flute at the National Conservatoire in Paris.
