Remarkable flutists
Emily Beynon is a renown European flutist, the principal flute of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam.
Born in Wales, she initially studied flute with Margaret Ogonovsky, then with William Bennett at the Royal Academy in London and Alain Marion in Paris.
Laureate of Pargue (1991) and Kobe (1993) competitions, her professional career started as a principal flute in the Glyndebourne Touring Opera in 1991. In 1995 she won a principal flute position at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Emily Beynon has made numerous appearances as a solo flutist, including Nielsen concerto performance at the Proms in London in 2015. Many leading UK composers have written new compositions for her: John Woolrich, Sally Beamish, Jonathan Dove, Errollyn Wallen and Roxanna Panufnik. She has taught at the Hague and Amsterdam conservatories.
In 2009 she co-founded the Netherlands Flute Academy (Neflac) with Suzanne Wolff. Neflac organizes courses and concerts for talented young flutists from the Netherlands and young international professionals.
