Bjarnason, Kolbeinn

Kolbeinn Bjarnason initially studied philosophy and literature at The Icelandic University and flute at Reykjavík College of Music. He continued his flute studies with Manuela Wiesler and took shakuhachi lessons with Ralph Samuelsson in New York and Teruhisa Fukuda in Tokyo.
For over 25 years he has been specializing in Japanese music working with such composers as Toshio Hosokawa, Hiroyuki Itoh, Noriko Miura etc.
Many Icelandic composers have dedicated works for him, including Sveinsson, Hallgrímsson, Thórarinsson, Hauksson and Björnsson.
He is one of the founding members of Caput Ensemble that specializes in performance and recordings of new music.
