Buyse, Leone

Leone Buyse is renown American flutist and pedagogue.
She studied flute with Joseph Mariano at the Eastman School of Music and later with Marcel Moyse, Jean-Pierre Rampal and Michel Debost in France which led to achieving finals of the Geneva International Flute competition in 1969.

Upon return to USA she got her first orchestra position as a solo piccolo and second flute in the Rochester Philharmonic. Throughout 22 years of her orchestra career she has held an Assistant Principal position in the San Francisco Symphony and last 10 years as Assistant/Acting Principal in the Boston Symphony orchestra.

Besides her numerous appearances as soloist, chamber musician on the most prestigious venues and festivals, she is widely known as a flute teacher, including positions with the University of Michigan, the New England Conservatory, Boston University and Rice University where she has taught over 26 years.
