Caroli, Mario

Mario Caroli is an Italian flutist who started successful solo career after only 6 years of training. He studied flute with Annamaria Morini in Bologna and Manuela Wiesler in Vienna. After winning the Kranichsteiner International Prize in Darmstadt, he started a career as a solo flutist, performing with leading orchestras throughout the world and conductors like Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, Heinz Holliger, etc.
Many contemporary composers have written music to be performed by Mario Caroli: Salvatore Sciarrino, György Kurtag, Ivan Fedele, Philippe Hurel, Wolfgang Rihm, etc.
Overall, he has made over 40 recordings for Diapason, Musica, and Anaclase labels, including world premiere compositions.
Mario Caroli teaches at the Académie Supérieure de Musique in Strasbourg and the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, Germany.
