Ian Clarke is a British flutist and composer who is acknowledged as one of the leading player and composer in the flute world. Born in Broadstairs, Kent he studied flute with Simon Hunt, Averil Williams and Kate Lukas at the Guildhall School of Music, London.
Due to his broad set of education (degree in mathematics) and musical experiences (classical flute, rock band, film music production) Clarke's musical style explores extended techniques in general and flute in particular.
Ian Clarke is one of the leading living composers who write mostly for flute. Since 2000 he is a professor of flute at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He has given master classes at the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Northern College of Music, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Trinity College of Music and has regularly been invited to perform & lead workshops at numerous flute events and summer schools internationally.
