Jean-Claude Gérard is French flutist who studied with Marcel Moyse at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris. He is laureate of several international competitions including Geneve (1966).
He started his professional career with the Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux and later as a solo flutist with the Opéra National de Paris and the Philharmonic State Orchestra in Hamburg when he moved to Germany.
He started his teaching career at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover and since 1989 has been professor at the University of Music and performing Arts in Stuttgart.
Jean-Claude Gérard has made numerous recordings, mostly for Naxos label. Additionally, Jean-Claude Gérard is a member of the Deutsche Bläsersolisten, the Ensemble Villa Musica and the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart under the direction of Helmuth Rilling.
