Hoover, Katherine

Katherine Hoover (1937-2018) was an American flutist and composer. As a flutist she studied at the Eastman School of Music and Manhattan School of Music where she later became a faculty member. During that time, she continued study music theory and received her Master of Music Theory in 1974.

In 1990s Catherine Hoover established Papagena Press for publishing her own works. Kokopeli was the first composition of Papagena Press. Hoover's compositional style has been described as a "romantic, often pictorial atonal style". in addition to Kokopeli, Hoover has written two flute solo pieces inspired by Native American music: Winter Spirits and The Greet the Sun.
