Kogelenberg, Herman van

Kogelenberg, Herman van

Herman van Kogelenberg is a Dutch flute player. Born in Thorn, he studied flute with Willem Tonnaer, Abbie de Quant in Utrecht and Emily Beynon at the conservatories of Amsterdam, Utrecht and Hague. Whilst studying, Herman was appointed Principal Flute with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège in 1999.
From 2003 to 2010 he played in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam but left to become the principal flute of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra by special invitation from its Musical director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. In 2013 Herman van Kogelenberg was appointed principal flutist of the Münchner Philharmoniker under Lorin Maazel. He regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician with his Farkas Quintet Amsterdam which he founded in 1997. He regularly give masterclasses in Europe, USA and Asia.
