Remarkable flutists
Robert Langevin is a renown Canadian flutist and principal flautist of the New York Philharmonic for over 20 years.
Born in Quebec, he studied flute with Jean-Paul Major at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal. After winning the Prix d’Europe in 1976 he continued his flute studies with Aurèle Nicolet at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, and Maxence Larrieu in Geneva.
In 1980 he was awarded second prize at the Budapest International Competition. For 13 years he was associate principal flautist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and taught flute at the Duquesne University and the Université de Montréal.
Since 2000 he has been a principal flutist of the New York Philharmonic.
He currently serves on the faculties of the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music.
