Larrieu, Maxence

Maxence Larrieu is one of most prominent flutists of the 20th century. Along with Jean-Pierre Rampal, Alain Marion, Philippe Pierlot, and many others he represents the fabled French School of flute.
He studied flute with Joseph Rampal in Marseille and Gaston Crunelle at the Paris Conservatoire. Laureate of several prestigious competitions: Geneva (1954) and Munich, he has received 12 Grand Prix du Disque awards for his numerous recordings with Prague, Munich, Cologne orchestras, as well as chamber orchestras I Musici, l’Ensemble Instrumental of France etc.
Since 1964 he has toured throughout the world, appearing at all major concert halls and giving masterclasses at Julliard, Yale, and Royal Academy of Music in London to name a few.
He has been a member of jury of many international flute competitions: Kobé, Munich, Prague, Budapest and the Carl Nielsen International Flute Competition. Since 2001 he is president of the Jean-Pierre Rampal Flute Competition.
