Remarkable flutists
Paul Meisen was a German flutist and university professor. Born in Hamburg, he studied flute with Kurt Redel at the Detmold University of Music. In 1960 he won the ARD International Music Competition. His first orchestra was Badische Staatskapelle in Karlsruhe. From 1954 to 1972 he was as solo flutist with the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra and for one season with the Bavarian State Orchestra in Munich.
In 1972 he received a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and in 1981 at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich. After his retirement, Paul Meisen held a guest professorship at the National University of Fine Arts and Music Tokyo.
