Remarkable flutists
Thomas Nyfenger was an American flutist and teacher.
Born in Cleveland, he studied flute and piano at the Cleveland Institute. In 1963 he moved to New York establishing himself as a freelance chamber player with a specialty in contemporary music. From 1969 to 1980 he was a member of the New York Woodwind Quintet.
Prior his move to New York he played piccolo in the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, taught at the Yale School of Music and held many part-time playing and teaching positions throughout his career.
