Tara Helen O'Connor is a renowned American flutist. A two-time Grammy nominee and recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, she is a prominent figure in the world of chamber and contemporary music.
She studied at Stony Brook University (State University of New York at Stony Brook), where she earned her Bachelor of Arts, Master of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. Her primary flute instructor and mentor throughout her studies was the late Samuel Baron. Her other influential teachers included Robert Dick, Julius Levine, Thomas Nyfenger, and Keith Underwood.
Tara is known for her work in contemporary music, premiering numerous new pieces. Her career includes being a Season Artist with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS). She is also a member of the woodwind quintet Windscape and the Bach Aria Group, and a co-founder of the Naumburg Award-winning New Millennium Ensemble.
O'Connor is the Artistic Director of the Music from Angel Fire Festival, and her flute playing is featured on various film and TV soundtracks, such as Barbie and The Joker.
She teaches at the Yale School of Music, Bard College Conservatory of Music, Manhattan School of Music, and Purchase College Conservatory of Music.
