Petri, Michala

Petri, Michala

Michala Petri is a renown Danish recorder player who has performed at major festivals and in concert halls around the world and collaborated with Keith Jarrett, Claudio Abbado, Sir Neville Marriner, Sir James Galway, Gidon Kremer, Heinz Holliger, Henryk Szeryng, Pinchas Zukerman, Maurice Andre, Joshua Bell etc.
She studied with Ferdinand Conrad at the Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Hannover.
Since age of 17 when Michala Petri signed an exclusive contract with Philips/Polygram, she has recorded more than 70 albums, starting with a concert at BBC London with Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields.
In her wish to extend the recorder's limited dynamic potential she has actively collaborated with instrument-makers and composers, commissioning more than 150 new works for the instrument, including Sir Malcolm Arnold, Gordon Jacob, Per Nørgaard, Vagn Holmboe, Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, Olav Anton Thommessen etc.
In 2006, after 30 years with the international recording companies Philips/PolyGram and RCA/BMG, she founded "OUR Recordings" label with lutenist Lars Hannibal.
She has received the Leonie Sonning Music Prize, Europa Musicale Soloist Prize, and three times the prestigious German ECHO KLASSIK Award.

In 2012 Michala Petri was appointed Honorary Professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
