Smith, Joshua

Joshua Smith is an American flutist, chamber musician and educator.
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he studied flute with Frank Bowen and with Julius Baker and Jeffrey Khaner at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
In 1990 he became Principal Flute of the Cleveland Orchestra and regularly appeared as a soloist with the orchestra, including Cleveland Orchestra tours and performances at the Europe's most prestigious venues: BBC London Proms, Lucerne Festival, Berlin Philharmonie, Vienna Musikverein, and Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
Joshua Smith is a leader of the "Ensemble HD", the chamber group featuring members and guests of the Cleveland Orchestra, performing throughout the United States and the Marlboro and Santa Fe Music Festivals.
Joshua Smith has made several notable recordings, receiving Grammy nomination for Air (Telarc) and has appeared on "Live from the Marlboro Music Festival".
He teaches flute at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
