Remarkable flutists
Marie Sønderskov is a Danish flutist who is fluent in combining diverse forms of performance and improvisations.
She studied flute with Thomas Jensen at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus in Denmark, Petri Alanko in Helsinki and Kazushi Saito at the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo.
She specializes in performing and recording various forms of contemporary music, including pop, world music, jazz improvisation and Gagaku (an ancient form of Japanese imperial court music).
Marie Sønderskov is a founding member of the new music quartet, NJYD which regularly commissions and premieres contemporary music of Nordic composers.
As a soloist she has performed with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and has been invited to such music festivals as the Mata Festival in New York, the Lincoln Crossroads Music Festival, Musical Été a Sevrey in France, Klangspuren Festival in Austria and SPOR Festival in Denmark.
