Mark Sparks is an American flutist, teacher, and writer.
He studied flute with Josef Juhos at The Cleveland Institute and Robert Hugh Willoughby at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
He has played in several orchestras: Caracas Symphony, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, Memphis Symphony Orchestra until he was appointed Principal Flute in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra which became his main position throughout his career.
Mark Sparks has appeared as a soloist and orchestra musician on many venues around the world. He has recorded several solo albums and has been a Contributing Editor of Flute Talk magazine. He continues to write books about orchestral excerpts and flute tone development.
He is a faculty member of Chicago’s DePaul University and has taught the Aspen Music Festival and School for more than 25 years.
