Remarkable flutists
Janne Thomsen is a renowned Danish flutist. She started her music studies in Denmark at the age of four achieving her first acknowledgement as the Danish "Young Musician of the Year". She continued her education at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Paris Conservatoire. After winning prizes at the Prague (1991), Paris, Bayreuth, Rome, Vienna, and Boston competitions she received a special award from the Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik of Denmark.
As a soloist, she has appeared with the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Salzburg Camerata, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, Kremerata Baltica and collaborated with many leading contemporary composers: Sofia Gubaidulina, Peteris Vasks, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Wolfgang Rihm, James MacMillan, Michael Berkeley, Giya Kancheli, Bent Sørensen among others.
She has taught flute at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Hochschule für Musik in Lucerne and currently is the founder and artistic director of the Holstebro International Music Festival "Klassiske Dage".
