Velkaverh, Alja

Alja Velkaverh is a Slovenian flutist and pedagogue, recognized for her role as a principal flutist in orchestras and her contributions to contemporary music. Since 2010, she has been the Principal Flutist of the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne.
Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, she studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Professor Wolfgang Schulz. Then she continued her studies with Irena Grafenauer at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.
Before joining the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, she held the principal flute position with the Leipzig Philharmonic Orchestra and served as a member of the Bamberger Symphoniker.
She is a frequent guest principal with world-class ensembles, including the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (BRSO) and the La Scala Philharmonic in Milan.
Alja teaches at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (HfMT Köln) and the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein in Düsseldorf.
