Get inspired by stories you can easily discover

Everyone gets inspired from time to time. Mostly we get inspired by nature, art, or someone we admire. However, most of the time we get inspired by some good story. A story that can paint a vivid picture in our imagination, creating a mix of emotions and associations. Something that holds our attention for much longer than entertaining thought or meme we want to share.

So, how do we encounter stories that can make our lives more exciting and colorful?

You can read a book or watch a good movie, especially if it’s based on real events. However, I suggest diving into the stories of the lives of great composers and musicians you think you know. I bet you’ll be surprised how much you still don’t know yet and how this can help broaden your perspective and understanding of the overall culture of a particular time, composer, or piece you are trying to (re)discover.

Let me give you some hints:

  • Do you know many Germans with the last name Beethoven?
  • Who was the only student of W.A.Mozart who had never paid for the lessons and even lived in his house for free?
  • Try to recall some Polish friends with the surname Chopin…
  • What do you know about the city where the Doppler brothers were born and raised (hint: it’s not in Hungary or Austria)?
  • What was the reason for Jolivet’s obsession with primitive religion and magic?

Unfortunately, Netflix doesn’t make movies about this. Rather ironically, considering the impact of music in filmmaking.  And special thanks to Iranian artist Hadi Karimi whose 3D colorized portraits, I came across on his Instagram page hadikarimi.portraits, helping caught your attention, to begin with.

Enjoy your journey!
