Aldo Baerten is a distinguished Belgian flutist known for his combination of orchestral, chamber-music, solo and pedagogical work. He serves as Principal Flute of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra (formerly the Royal Flemish Philharmonic).
He studied with renowned flutists such as Peter‑Lukas Graf (Basel), Philippe Boucly (Munich) and Gaby Pas van Riet (Stuttgart), acquiring a Soloist Diploma at the Musikhochschule Basel.
Laureate of multiple international competitions, including the Maria Canals International Music Competition (Barcelona) and the Vienna International Music Competition.
He has performed with prestigious orchestras such as the Belgian National Orchestra, the Walloon Chamber Orchestra and symphonies in the U.S.
Baerten has made several notable recordings for Pentatone, Cypres, ECM and Phaedra labels. His recording of Schubert’s Introduction & Variations “Trockne Blumen” (with pianist Martin Helmchen) earned a nomination for the BBC Music Magazine’s chamber-music recording prize in 2010.
Currently he serves as Principal Flute of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra (formerly the Royal Flemish Philharmonic).
His teaching roles include professorships at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (Belgium) and the Utrecht Conservatory (Netherlands), and he gives masterclasses on four continents.
