Cesari, Matteo

Cesari, Matteo

Matteo Cesari is an Italian virtuoso flutist and researcher, known for his profound collaborations with major 20th and 21st-century composers, particularly Salvatore Sciarrino and Brian Ferneyhough.
Born in Bologna, Italy, Cesari began his musical studies in his hometown and in Modena. He pursued further training at the Strasbourg Conservatoire under Mario Caroli, earning a first prize and master's degree. In 2015 he earned a doctorate with highest honors from the University of Paris IV (Sorbonne). His thesis focused on the "interpretation of time" in the works of Sciarrino and Ferneyhough.
Cesari has worked closely with legendary figures including Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, Ivan Fedele, and Helmut Lachenmann. He has performed as a soloist with world-class ensembles such as the Ensemble Intercontemporain and the BBC Scottish Orchestra. His recitals frequently take place in major venues like the Philharmonie de Paris, Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
He teaches the interpretation of electroacoustic music at IRCAM in Paris and is a faculty member at Pôle Sup’93.
