Fabbriciani, Roberto

Fabbriciani, Roberto

Roberto Fabbriciani is an Italian virtuoso flutist and researcher universally recognized as a pioneer of contemporary flute music, the best known for his historic collaboration with Salvatore Sciarrino.
Born in Arezzo, Italy, he displayed early talent and was a student of the legendary Severino Gazzelloni.
Fabbriciani is considered the "muse" for many of the 20th century's greatest composers. Together with Sciarrino, they developed a "superflute" vocabulary of micro-sounds, breath effects, and key clicks. Sciarrino dedicated his foundational collection L'opera per flauto to him. He was a central figure in Luigi Nono’s later works, particularly those involving live electronics at the Experimentalstudio in Freiburg.
Fabbriciani is the inventor of the Hyperbass flute, the largest and lowest-pitched member of the flute family (pitched in C, three octaves below the bass flute).
He continues to lead high-level specialization courses, most notably at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
