Grodd, Uwe

Uwe Grodd is a distinguished German-born flutist, conductor, music editor, researcher, and educator who has become a prominent musical figure in New Zealand.
Grodd graduated from Mainz University in Germany with a Master's degree in 1980. He studied flute with André Jaunet, Werner Peschke, and Robert Aitken. Additionally, he studied conducting with Sergiu Celibidache and Manfred Schreier.
His musical philosophy emphasizes a holistic approach to music-making, combining rigor with imaginative intuition.
Grodd is a prolific recording artist with the Naxos label, recognized for his world premiere recordings and editions of 18th-century music by composers like Ferdinand Ries and J.B. Vanhal. His recordings have won international awards, including a Cannes Classical Award and Gramophone Editor's Choice awards.
Grodd was a Professor of Flute and Conducting at the University of Auckland from 1984 to 2018 and is now a Professor Emeritus.
He is the long-standing Music Director of the Manukau City Symphony Orchestra and the Auckland Choral Society.
