Hazelzet, Wilbert

Hazelzet, Wilbert

Wilbert Hazelzet is an internationally acclaimed Dutch flutist specializing in the baroque transverse flute (traverso) and historically informed performance.
Raised in a family with deep musical connections, Hazelzet initially worked in libraries and trained as a nurse after secondary school.
Encouraged by Frans Brüggen, Kees Otten, and Frans Vester, he dedicated himself exclusively to the traverso starting in 1970. He mastered 18th-century instrumental techniques by studying original treatises on flute playing and vocal performance.
In 1978, he became a member of the world-renowned ensemble Musica Antiqua Köln, and since 1985, he has served as the first flutist for Ton Koopman’s orchestra. He is also a regular guest soloist with groups such as London Baroque and Ensemble Sonnerie.
Hazelzet has recorded extensively for major labels including Archiv-Deutsche Grammophon, Glossa, Erato, and Brilliant Classics.
Hazelzet holds long-standing professorships at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht.
