Heinzmann, Hans-Udo

Heinzmann, Hans-Udo

Hans Udo Heinzmann is a distinguished German flutist, researcher, and pedagogue. He is primarily recognized for his long tenure as a principal orchestral player and his significant contributions to flute literature through his work with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Flöte (German Flute Association).
Born in Darmstadt, Germany, he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt under Professor Gertrude Redel and later continued his advanced studies with the legendary Aurèle Nicolet.
For several decades, Heinzmann served as the Principal Flutist of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra (formerly the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg).
He is a noted scholar of flute history and repertoire. He has edited and published numerous "lost" or neglected 19th-century works for flute through publishers like Schott Music and Universal Edition, specializing in the music of Theobald Böhm and his contemporaries.
He teaches flute at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.
