Hünteler, Konrad

Hünteler, Konrad

Konrad Hünteler was a world-renowned German flutist and a pioneering figure in the Historical Performance Practice movement. He was celebrated for his mastery of both the modern flute and a vast collection of historical instruments.
Born in Haltern am See, Germany, he studied with Hans-Jürgen Möhring in Detmold and later with the legendary Aurèle Nicolet, who significantly influenced his technical precision and musical depth.
While trained as a modern flutist, he became fascinated by the original soundworlds of the Baroque and Classical eras, leading him to specialize in the traverso (Baroque flute) and early 19th-century keyed flutes.
For many years, he was the solo flutist of the Cappella Coloniensis, soloist with the Camerata Academica Salzburg, and the London Classical Players under Roger Norrington.
From 1979 until his retirement, Hünteler was a Professor of Flute at the Münster College of Music.
