Kuijken, Barthold

Kuijken, Barthold

Barthold Kuijken is a renown Flemish flutist, conductor and a teacher, one of the most acknowledged musicians in the field of Early Music.
He has extensively performed and recorded repertoire for the Baroque flute, often collaborating with his brothers: Sigiswald Kuijken (violin) and Wieland Kuijken (cello and gamba). As a member of the Baroque orchestra La Petite Bande, he has toured throughout the world.
Barthold Kuijken has been the artistic director and conductor of the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra and taught Baroque flute at the Royal Conservatories of Brussels and The Hague.
He has published many scholarly performance editions of 18th-century repertoire, and his book "The Notation Is Not the Music" is considered the artful summary of his research, ideas, and reflections on music.
